First, we have the sun. The solar power is what usually comes to our mind when we talk about sustainable energy. This power uses the sun’s ray to produce energy. It is easy to tap in to the sun’s power all you need it to set up some solar panels in your home and you have your own solar power system to give electricity to your home. But you can also take a more complex route, which is great for businesses and that is to set up a solar power plant that has enough electricity to power up an entire town. This type of green power is dependent on sun’s radiation and transforms it to energy. Once it is amassed, it can be utilized for whatever means possible. You can use it right away or store it in cells as a reserve for a much later use.

Second, we have the wind power. This type of power was used for ages. It was even used in the age old time to power up ships and windmills are used to provide energy power to towns. But the windmills that exist in the olden times are a far cry from the polished and sleek windmills that you can normally see in the scenic landscaped of Holland. And now we can also see them in our own country as well as more and more people are tapping into this renewable energy source. The wind is one of the most powerful energy producers of all time. You can see turbine farms and a lot of individual residential wind turbines all through United States. The great thing about this type of power system is that it does not give off any pollutants that will ruin our environment.

Going green is the best way to go when looking for a way to have a brighter future. With these helpful facts, you will soon have the means to produce a clean and renewable energy that will greatly serve the future generations and us.

The block’s mass is 2.8 kg. The top of the hill is 70 m high and located 120 m from the starting point. The hill is not a straight line or straight curve, it has a small bump in it . After the top of the hill, there is a deep pit 40 m wide. We are trying to get the block over this pit to the other side, which is 50 m high. What is the minimum speed that the block needs to make it over the pit?

This is part of the “potential energy and energy conservation” chapter. I’m going nuts trying to figure this out, thanks in advance for any and all help!

Here’s my attempt:

We need to make it up to 70m; and have enough speed there to jump over that 40m wide pit so that we land on the other rim, which is 20m lower. I do not see what for we’d need the 120 m …
We completely ignore air resistance and friction – nothing said in the problem statement about this.

We compute it from the “back”: Approximating standard gravitational acceleration with 10m/s², how long does it take the block to fall 20m? Well, if that time is t seconds, then the falling speed at the end will be 10t m/s (v = a*t). The average speed over that time will have been 5t m/s, and hence the distance fallen will have been 5t*t m. If this is equal to 20m, then t = 2s.
So we have 2 s to jump over that pit; which means we need a speed of 40 m / 2s = 20m/s at the top of the hill.

The kinetic energy, up there, must therefore be at least mv²/2 = 2.8*20²/2 J = 200*2.8 J = 560 J.

The potential energy consumed by running up that 70m is mgh = 2.8*10*70 J = 1960 J.

Together, we therefore need a “start energy” of 1960 J + 560 J = 2520 J.

We supply this as kinetc energy with speed u, so that we have

2520 = 2.8*u²/2
5040 = 2.8*u²
1800 = u²
u = 42.42 m/s

We have all heard the back and fourth about global warming and whether or not humans and fossil fuels are the cause, or if the statistics we are seeing are just a matter of standard climate change over time. One alternative energy source that has seen an increase over fossil fuels in the past decade is wind energy. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. The primary method of harnessing this type of energy is wind turbines. Large wind farms connect to the power transmission network to provide power to surrounding areas. Due to the lack of emissions and the increase in power companies buying back surplus electricity produced by these turbines the electricity production of wind turbines has doubled in the past three years.

Solar energy is another alternative energy source that has been steadily increasing in use over the past few years. Solar energy is energy derived from the sun through solar radiation. This is a relatively inexpensive way to harness the energy of our sun to help provide power for our every day needs. Solar power is now relatively inexpensive and kits are being sold that can power residential houses and buildings. There are also projects available that will allow you to take solar powered garden lamps and turn them into backup cell phone charges.

These are just a few examples of the alternative energy sources that are becoming more mainstream every day. While fossil fuels may or may not be causing global warming, these alternatives can be less costly both on our economy and our wallets. It will be interesting to see the developments of these energy sources in our daily lives in the future.

I’m writing a “story” and i need some character names.

First of all the story is about these kids and before they were born their parents did these expirements on the “baby making” cells in the human body.So now the children have all kinds of wierd powers.There are two seperate sides right the classic bad side and good side.BUt anyway i need help with names and powers.Can you help?

The first character i need is a girl who is 15.She is super rich and popular.She is also a super *****.She is mean to people who arn’t as popular as her.Basicaly she is your classic, high school class A
*****.She needs a name and a power.(she is a blonde btw)

Another kid is her brother.He is 17 and he is kind of a dark punk kid.He is the brother of the girl above and is kind of like the dark mysterious kid all the girls have a crush on.(as for appearance he has black hair with blonde streaks and has several peircings) (needs a name & power)

Another is an african girl shes a perky girl who is someone who will comfort you if your sad.She has bright green eyes (because of the experiments) and has long dark hair (name & power)

Last two are twins They are Irish decendants One is a girl another is a guy.The girl is kind o like the first guy except she is lound and pround and definetly isn’t afraid to speak her mind.She has dark red hair a dresses pretty goth-like.Her twin is kind of a “nerd”.He is kind of the brains of the little “good” group.His personality is similar to his sisters (except he isn’t goth-ish) and he dresses kinda preppy.(they both also need names and powers)
