excellent article that discusses Eco Energy Sources from a new
point of view. Today’s new article is titled If Enron purposely shut off people’s electricity to increase profits…? .
Question by dumdum: If Enron purposely shut off people’s electricity to increase profits…?
…doesn’t that mean that energy companies (in states that went from regulated to deregulated) make a lot more profits providing less energy to consumers because it creates artificial scarcity? Doesn’t that mean that the push for “energy conservation” and those “energy saving” bulbs just a way to do exactly what Enron did without being as obvious? Instead of driving up energy prices by leaving people in the dark during “blackouts,” they can do the same thing by making everyone conserve and buy those CFL bulbs (that will soon completely replace regular bulbs) that leave more hazardous mercury in the environment than is necessary!

Do you live in one of these deregulated states (which means that now energy is not a public service covered with taxes, but it’s for-profit and tax-subsidized way for certain companies and market speculators to make a lot of money)? Are they spending a lot of time and money telling you to buy CFLs and to conserve? Are your energy prices going up (even though you are using the same amount of energy or less)?

musicman: Taxes are still going to “private” companies that get to the infrastructure that people paid for with their taxes. But people are being taxed many times under deregulation because taxes and much higher prices are going to these “private” companies!
And electricity still provided by the city (and not private companies that take over) costs a lot less.

Either way, you and I pay for it — either through market price or government taxation…

I’d prefer the market dictate price — it’s usually more efficient (read: Cheaper).
