More and more people are pursuing ways to save energy which is a positive sign. They are finding that saving energy is not just a smart idea but perhaps a necessity for many in today's economic times and volatile energy markets. The question soon becomes what are the many ways to conserve electricity or energy at home. The first part of the journey for more energy conservation is in understanding where you are spending money today. Therefore the most common and ideal approach in getting started with conserving electricity in your house for example is to identify what are the mains sources represented in your annual energy consumption – what are the energy costs related to your household. This in itself will shed some light on discovering ways to conserve energy or electricity in the home. For reference, there are some national averages for the US which can be used for some initial guidance. They estimate the average family spending about ,900 annually fo r home utilities. These can be broken down into the following averages:Heating (31%) and Cooling (12%)Water Heating (12%), Lighting (12%)Computers and Electronics (9%), Appliances (9%)Refrigeration (8%) and Other (8%)The general consensus is each household has a significant energy savings potential should families pursue some of the many ways to save energy or electricity. The first question is how much money will saving energy actually bring to my pocket?Unfortunately there is no single answer applicable to everyone bearing in mind each of our situations is somewhat different. What I am referring to here is difference in our behaviors, size of home, location and usage patterns. These elements determine to a large degree the opportunities and potential for energy savings. The positive point is there exist many ways to conserve energy or conserving electricity in the house.A concrete example, how do I start conserving electricity in the house? One of the first considerations for conserv ing electricity in you home will be awareness of people's behaviors in your household. The simplest ways to conserve electricity is to adopt a mentality whereby members of the house start to manage the electricity they consume. The exact same think can be applied to identifying ways to conserve or save energy as a whole. So just how does someone begin to manage energy or electricity used in the home? My initial suggestion is to make them aware of both how and where they are consuming energy or electricity. The goal at this stage is to establish some form of relationship between what we do as individuals and how that relates to saving energy, or the potential for energy savings. Once you have gained more awareness, you are then ready for the second step which is to start identifying more precisely the ways to conserve energy or tips for conserving electricity in specific to your home.It is important to point out that energy conservation is a journey; the various actions you take for saving energy will compound over time.
