Question by Yem: 1) Does the usage of a bigger cable result in higher consumption of electricity than a smaller cable/wire?
2) Does using a 10 feet long power extension cord results in more consumption of electricity compared to a direct plug point from the wall ?
3) Would I waste electricity if I only use 2 of the plug points in a 5 plug points extension cord (10 feet long) ?
4) Does “energy saving” devices work. What do they do/how do they work and where should such devices be installed ?

A bigger cable is provided to enable the carrying of a larger current. For a given current, a smaller cable will have a higher voltage drop which may make the voltage at the device too low. The power loss in the cable (for a given current) is proportional to the cable resistance (I^2R loss).
