well there are alternatives already…unfortunatly we have shut them down or limited them. Nuclear was very promosing but…coal is abundant but not clean burning. Solar and wind are too expensive right now. When prices rise high enough we will reduce consumption and see wind and solar as a reasonable soloution.

I could not help but notice that “clean energy” sponsored the Republican debates yesterday. The main premise clean energy makes is that it will produce jobs and enough energy to fuel the US for 100 years. Of course it will not tell you how the US will look when we destroy our landscape to reach all that clean coal and fossil fuels. So what message are we sending? Mixed?

If you build a battery powered “windmill” you will really have a battery powered propeller fan. That will not get you a ribbon, but it will get you some unwanted teasing.
If you desire to build a wind-powered device ( a propeller) to charge a battery, then you will have a windmill powering a generator. You can use any type of wet cell battery, but the easiest will be one or more dry cell, rechargeable flashlight-type batteries or the rechargeable battery from a power tool. The voltage from the little DC motor that you use as the generator will have to be a bit higher than the voltage rating of the battery or the set of batteries.
Another problem will be in getting the rotating power from the propeller shaft to drive the shaft of the generator. The generator usually rotates faster than the propeller.

Using the cart-start launch, an engine with a generator is started immediately, and the remaining engines are started while the aircraft taxis to the end of runway. During these launches, a small-controlled explosive is inserted into the engines located on the B-52. “The charges basically jumpstart the engines, removing the need to bring out the aerospace ground equipment used on normal launches,” said Tech.
